Mercedes’ Diesel Marathon Reaches Beijing
The longest diesel marathon of all times ended successfully in Beijing last month. New Zealand Company Produces World’s First Sample Of Bio-Diesel From Algae
New Zealand-based Aquaflow Bionomic Corporation announced today that it had produced its first sample of home-grown bio-diesel fuel with algae sourced from local sewerage ponds.
“We believe this is the world’s first commercial production of bio-diesel from algae outside the laboratory, in ‘wild’ conditions. To date, bio-diesel from algae has only been tested under controlled laboratory conditions with specially selected and grown algae crops,” explains Aquaflow spokesperson Barrie Leay.

Northeast States Unhappy With National Particulate Proposal
The association of pollution control agencies in northeast states, NESCAUM, expressed disappointment with December’s proposal by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator to revise the national ambient air quality standards for fine particulate matter (PM-2.5) air pollution. "NESCAUM commends the EPA staff for its exhaustive review of the thousands of peer-reviewed studies linking health effects with exposure to PM-2.5 and its science-based recommendations in support of more health-protective PM-2.5 standards," stated Arthur Marin, NESCAUM's Executive Director. Changes Made To 2008 Euro 5 Emissions
In December the European Commission released its expected 2008 tighter regulations of exhaust emissions for diesel cars and light commercial vehicles. Stronger Standards for Particles Proposed
To further improve public health across the country, EPA is proposing revisions to its national air quality standards for fine particle pollution (also called fine particulate matter) and from some coarse particles.
"Our nation's air is the cleanest it has been in over a generation and today's proposal begins our next step in the steady march toward cleaner air and healthier lives by addressing particle pollution," said EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson. "Armed with the Bush Administration's innovative clean air policies and the best available science we will continue to improve air quality and public health."

City of New York orders 500 diesel hybrid-electric buses
DaimlerChrysler AG said October 11 that New York Transit and the Metropolitan Transport Authority in New York have ordered 500 diesel hybrid electric municipal buses, which the company’s North American commercial division expects to begin delivery in Spring of 2006, reports the Associated Press. DaimlerChrysler AG calls the deal the largest ever for diesel hybrid buses, although the city has already ordered 325 buses previously.
